I draw inspiration from the subject that is closest to home: the Tenderloin itself. My work is focused on the Tenderloin cityscape, from SRO’s to Four-Star Hotels, high-tech offices to homeless encampments - the Tenderloin is full of contradictions. My work attempts to bridge these contradictions and show the connections between people and their environment. “Connected” weaves together clay and acrylic using laser-etching technology and hand-painting techniques. Brought together, these mediums create multi-layered, three-dimensional works paying homage to themes of personal struggle, spiritual renewal and the beauty inherent in a complicated urban environment.
